2092 in 1:22.5 (1:18) scale

Beitrag von Mariazellerbahn »

I'm having a go at a rebuild of the LGB 2092 (HF130).
Unfortunately, LGB upscaled their model to 1:18 so that it wouldn't look too small. That means that widening the model will have to be a compromise to prevent it being out of gauge. My attempt is being widened by 6mm each side (12mm total) whereas it really should be about 10mm each side (20mm total).

Photo: the bonnet section is completed with nose weights and new outer grille.

The widening of the chassis is the next job.
Attatching plasticard strip to the LGB "Luran" type plastic is not straightforward and needs a special solvent called MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). However, industrial strength superglue (like Syroflex) does the job but the bond is instantaneous and leaves no time to correct errors.

Photo: a start made on the extended footplate width (with the bonnet section unfinished).

Extended width chassis laminated across the top with 30 thou plasticard to get rid of LGB's obvious step.
Also laminated underneath with 20 thou plasticard which smooths things off nicely.
Grille is a plastruct frame with steel rods. A new cab isn't going to be much wider than the old one by looks of things.

It has taken me multiple attempts to log in (at least 20).
Is there anyone else having problems?

Shunters step is coming along ... ahem, one step at a time.
Would have been a bit flimsy but there is a 3 thou slot in the chassis to keep it all rigid.

The steps sorted ... using an LGB elastic tape measure.
Cut and spliced the plastruct to help give a bit of strength.
Not 100% correct but it will do. Had to beef up the struts without overdoing them.
I could slim them down later but once painted dark grey, I doubt they'll be noticed.
Steps are a bit wider to accomodate an LGB figure.

Decided to glue the cab together and drill out the window apertures later.
The ABS didn't seem to want to adhere along a 3mm edge so ended up with corner reinforcements.
Behind is a 4-wheel coach, mocking me as I contemplate making the roof from scratch.

The roof was planked front to back and skinned with two thou plasticard ... and I had some tee strip to make guttering.

Good work so far, very impressive! What plans did you use to come up with the shape of the roof? I have a Kroess conversion kit for the Bemo model sitting here, waiting to be build. I feel however the roof cross section is incorrect (not convex enough), but would like to compare the parts to good plans to be sure.

Keep up the good work,

Patrick

Thank you for the encouraging words. Basically, I used the attached full end on photo, upscaled that and used as a template.
The profile is almost (but not quite) the same as the LGB 4 wheel coach roofs.
This model is about 12mm too narrow though (6mm each side won't be noticeable) because LGB made the HF130C to a larger scale (about 1:18) and I had to keep the rebuild within 1:22.5 gauge. [/quote]

Yes, you´re right, it is same profile as the "Spantenwagen" have, no matter if two- or four-axle.
Means, the main radius is 2900mm and side radius 340mm.

How is the status of your project? Please let us see some pictures.

That is as far as I have got. Unfortunately I've had a few medical issues and put it aside for now.
